Clara Mullinax Kaplan

Clara M. Kaplan, 81, passed away July 13, 2003.

She was born September 5, 1921, in Greenville to Ralph and Laura Mullinax. After graduating from Parker High School, she completed nursing training at Roper Hospital in Charleston. She served as a registered nurse in the U.S. Army Medical Corps during World War II with the rank of First Lieutenant at Fort Gordon, Ga. She was united in marriage to Captain Leon Kaplan on August 19, 1943. After the war, they lived in W. Hempstead, N.Y., until retirement brought them back to Greenville in 1975.

Clara was a wonderful wife, mother, sister and grandmother. She had a keen sense of humor and her generous, caring, positive personality had a special effect on all who knew her.

Clara is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Gloria and Buddy Chrietzberg and Nancy and Sidney Taylor; sister, Gloria Bond; and granddaughters, Emily Chrietzberg, Kelley Stapp, Cydnie Draime and Kim Miller. She is further survived by a brother-in-law, sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces, nephews, great-grandchildren, great-nieces, great- nephews and many friends.

In addition to her loving husband of 57 years, who died January 2, 2001, she was predeceased by her parents and brother, Frederick.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 15, 2003, at 1:30 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown, conducted by Rabbi Marc Wilson. Burial will follow in Springwood Cemetery.
