Hazel Newton Crawley age 89 of 781 Washington Street, Forest City, NC died Tuesday February 26, 2002 at Rutherford Hospital.. She was a native of Rutherford County, NC and a daughter of the late Lawrence O. Newton and Annie Mayo Hawkins Newton. A homemaker and member of the Missionary Wesleyan Church of Forest City. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Crawley. Survivors include her son, Ray Crawley of Waldorf, Maryland, a daughter, Patsy Crawley Poteat of Forest City, a brother, Jack Newton of Forest City, two sisters, Virginia Newton Jones and Lois Newton Downey both of Forest City. There are five grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. Her funeral was held at Missionary Wesleyan Church, 811 Doggett Road, Forest City, NC at 2:00 PM Thursday, February 28, 2002. Interment was at Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery Hazel had lived in a nursing home for the past four years due to a stroke.
