Joseph L. Mullinax was my father and was born in Cleveland Township, SC which is in upper Greenville County near the North Carolina boundary and was a rural farming area. He lived next door to his grandfather, E. J. Mullinax and was raised mostly by him. His first cousin, Newman Smith, was also raised by E. J. Mullinax and he and Newman were very close. When textile mills came to the area, his family, along with many others were attracted by the wages and hope for a more prosperous life offered by the mills in nearby towns. Ervin J. Mullinax and Jones Arthur Mullinax and his family moved to town in 1903. E.J. Mullinax became the pastor at the Tabernacle Baptist Church in Pelzer, SC and Jones Arthur Mullinax worked in the mill. - more later when I find time.  Joseph L. Mullinax, Jr.
